California Dreamin' On Such A Winters Day

Last weekend Colin and I got to go on our first road trip, to California for a nice family visit. Not only did we get to see the sunrise over the mountains in western Utah but we got to spend 8 hours in the most horrible drive in the U.S., through Nevada. (This is a formal apologie for all the pictures I put up on this post)Ya sure I mean its desert right, and we get that in Utah but this desert is just bad, its sage brush and small squat mountains. I mean I literally fall asleep from boredom on that drive. Luckily Colin was driving and he was super alert. To get an idea of how boring this drive is we literally kept the steering wheel straight and seriously celebrated when we got to go up or down a hill and try and get the car to turn the slight corners on its own. But after all of Nevada we got to go to California! Donner's Pass is really pretty and Colin loved the mountainous range much better. Since all we'd had to eat that day was mass amounts of nut-n-bolts (made by us specifically for the road trip, 3 full Tupperware...they barley lasted us the first car ride), we decided to stop at a small town just at the base of the summit called Colfax. Colin loved it, every small town we passed he was convinced was the Son's of Anarchy town. So we stopped in to get some very good local pizza and a nice little salad to share. Then we made the last 2 hours to Becky's house. I was so excited to be there, it had been over a year since I had last seen Becky's family, it was a long overdue visit. Also my dad was there from Canada so it made the visit even better! After giving everyone big hugs and sweating from being excited/playing and running around with the kids, we got to relax and play $100,000 Pyramid on the Game Show Network. Its super lame but really fun I swear. The next day, Thursday, Becky and my dad to pick up Meaghan and Max from the airport. Colin and I stayed home with Analynn and Isaiah. Then everyone came home and Colin and I took Isaiah to the park where I think we had just as much, if not more, fun than Isaiah playing on the jungle gym. Then we went home for lunch, hungout with everyone and waited for my mom, Josh, Ben and Meggie to come. And finally they did, around 7. We all had yummy spaghetti and eventually went to bed out in the tent (there were too many people to fit in the house). The next day Colin and I got to go into the city. It was Colin's first time to California so we really wanted to go into San Fransisco. So around 12:00 noon we took BART into the city, got off on Powell Street and walked around the mall for a bit.
We went to the MERRELL store where Colin bought his hat (show above) and I bought a nice new water bottle. After we went to China town where Colin was hoping to use his bargaining skill and awesome Chinese, but all we bought were some chopsticks. Most of the stores had American stuff in them anyway.
Then we walked through the city down to the piers, from Pier 7 to Pier 39. We stopped for a bit of a rest...
Our Walking Shoes...
Don't judge our handicappedness
We saw some sea lions,
homeless people,
street performers, Ghiridelli Square, there was a segway tour at Ghiridelli Square...
A cute bakery with these...
The ocean, Colin had never seen the Pacific Ocean before and he was excited!
We stopped in to get delicious fish & chips with a Seirra Neveda. We ended the trip walking back to Pier 1 and hoping on BART to go home.
The next day all of us...literally: My dad, mom, Becky, Shane, Jonah, Isaiah, Analynn, Josh, Ben, Meggie, Meaghan, Mason, Maximus, Me, Colin, Becky's friends, Liz, Adam and their kids Kaylee and James, went to the Muir Woods. It was a windy road down to the forest and we had to park far away but the trees were beautiful. We all went down the main path but Ben, Meggie, Colin and I went on a more vigorous hike up through the forest and met up with everyone at the end. It was so nice to be outside and experiencing the forest and nature.
It was a good last day trip for the vacation. Afterward we all went back to Becky's were we had a bit of a birthday party for her kids. Yummy vegan pizza and cupcakes were eaten, and awesome presents were opened. Also Kaitlin got to come over!! And it was so nice seeing her and catching up. We ended the day with everyone asleep and me and Colin watching How To Train Your Dragon with Analynn putting toys all over Colin. It was sad to go, but we had a really nice time with everyone and also my family just absolutely loves Colin, which is awesome (it was his first time meeting all of them). I miss them all already and we told Isaiah, who wants Colin to come back to play Pikmin with him, we would be back as soon as possible. On our way back we got to take a minor detour to Lake Tahoe City where we got yummy local food, Colin had a sandwich and I had a delicious cranberry walnut salad with feta cheese and raspberry vinaigrette...mmmm I want one now!
We went to the lake walked around a bit before finsihing the long 8 hours home. As much as we hated the drive the trip was worth it, but we are glad to be home too.

Life Is Changing

I'm sad my car is dying. I need to lay it to rest before I end up putting even more money into this dying car just to keep it on life support. I found out yesterday I need to get my transfer case fixed, I'm not sure but I think its a case to the engine and its internally shot. So if I want to have my car up and running I need to put out $2,220.95. Which is 1/4 of my car loan. I still owe $6,000 on this thing but all I can do is sell it now because I can't afford it. The sad thing is its in such crappy condition, the back windows won't roll up (their taped), it needs new tires, new brakes, its pretty much not worth fixing for me. So now I have to find a dealership to by this thing so that I can not have a car. This poses a problem because I work at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi. So now I have to find a job up in Salt Lake that I'll be able to take public transit or walk to. Here comes the job search, and I have a feeling its going to suck. Although I have one particular place in mind. Anthropologie. Not only are they hiring but I have 3 years retail experience, I'm highly qualified. So now I have to find time to turn in my resume and fill out an application, to Anthropologie along with many other places. But I have to admit I'm actually happy about this whole thing. I hated all the maintenance I had and expenses with my car. Not to mention my mom is going to love it when she isn't paying my insurance anymore and I'll get to walk places, which I love. And if all goes well I'll be working at Anthropolgie so I can spend all my money on their cute clothes and actually dress good for once! So I can't wait to be able to turn in my application!! Crossing my fingers it will all work out so that eventually I'll be rolling to the Gateway, via Trax, and wearing cute clothes like this and working at a job I would actually enjoy.

Officially October

Now that its October and officially the month of Halloween I feel like my Halloween holiday antics can finally be satisfied. I've done nothing in September except wait for October so I can figure out my costume, decorate for Halloween and begin my month long adventure of making Halloween style treats. And who else to help me with this task than the ultimate homemaker herself, Martha Stewart. She has fun ideas for decorating, costumes, candies and great party ideas, but I love her baking section for Holiday treats. Shes got a plethora of delicious looking baked goodies I can't wait to make. The first one I want to make is this No-Bake Spiderweb Cheesecake, its seems very simple and perfect for a not so great chef like myself. Next I will have to make some Pumpkin Patch Cupcakes, Orange Jack-o'-Lanterns with Sorbet, and Mini Pumpkins Whoopie Pies. Its going to be a fun bake filled month! So feel free to contact me and I'll be sure to send some of the end results your way. To check out these and much more fun recipies check out Martha Stewart Living.com.

Our Weekend

Since moving into our house we've made quite a few homemade meals. On Friday we went all out, using one of Martha Stewart's recipes, the recipe found HERE. Please don't look at Martha's recipe pictures before mine, because of course hers is going to look much better. But we made a Mexican Potato Omelet. And yes, it was delicious! We realized afterward we forgot salt and pepper, and decided there needs to be a bit more potatoes but over all it was delicious to say the least. Also we watching this movie for maximum entertainment...
It was as we were eating our lovely omelet and watching LOTR on our futon that we realized we really need a table. We do have limited space but the next day we rearranged some things so that a table would fit perfectly. We knew it had to be small, we knew it had to be compact and we knew we would find just the right one at Ikea, and we did. After eating their breakfast, which we've both never tried (I had yummy eggs with potatoes and french toast sticks, Colin got my bacon, his biscuit and gravy with eggs and potatoes), we browsed through Ikea finally setting on one great table.
awesome storage space!also picked up these chairs and seat cushions! Mugwomp likes them too

We also picked up some Tupperware, mixing bowls, bathmat, and some dishes. And that was our weekend!

Back To School Clothes

One of the things I love about Fall is going back to school. And one of the things I love about going back to school is justifying spending money on "back to school clothes". So I did, I went back to school shopping and actually got some very nice things for not very much money. So here is the long post of the new clothes I bought...(shoes still need to be purchased)

Lucky Brand: much needed jeans (compliments of the bf, my other jeans ripped), Old Navy: black skinnies
Banana Republic: Pj shirt, gray v neck
Luck Brand: slouchy tees, blue and black (its so nice getting a discount at retail stores and not have to work there! thanks colin!)
Forever 21: gray sweatshirt (fits so nicely)
Old Navy: flower white tank, argyle cardigan

The outfit I wore today...
Banana Republic: cardigan, Levi: skinny jeans

Parlez Vous Gossip?

Its officially less than a week until Gossip Girl Season 4, season premiere is to air. I know, I can't wait either. We left off in kind of a mess, Chuck was shot, Blair and Serena were jet setting to Le Paris. True, I still haven't been able to watch all of season 3, but it doesn't mean I'm excluded to be excited about the next season. I'm still hoping it will magically appear on my doorstep in time for me to watch it before next Monday. While we wait for Season 4, and I wait for my magical package, here is a video I found via Tumblr.com. A preview of all the clothes the cast will be wearing, and how their personal style has changed since they arrived in Paris.

Eeeek!! I couldn't be more excited. Here are a few pictures from the new episode. Bonjour Paris!
I don't believe anyone has looked sexier with a cane

The Doobie Brothers Concert

The keyboardist from The Doobie Brothers ended up going into Lucky Jeans, where Colin is a manager, and him and Colin began talking. Along with Coling being a great salesman, he's an excellent talker. So as they were talking the guy mentioned he was in town for the Doobie Brother, and that he was in the band. The guy ended up getting Colin and I tickets to the sold out show and VIP seats! (they were nice chairs on the upper grassy area). We got to the show, got our wrist bands, entered the VIP section. Half way through we decided to join the crowd down at the front. It was nice cause it was an older crowd so there weren't any pushy people, but there were pleanty of great dancers. So we got to enjoy the show, pretty much front row! The show was amazing, the artists were fantastic, it was just such a fun concert. Sadly there was no cameras allowed, but I tried to take one with my phone, but it didn't turn out so well.

Fall, Yet Again...

Its fall, again. I know it only feels like a couple months ago it was last fall, but believe me, its been an entire year! I'm finally starting school again up at Salt Lake Community College. Its my second week and already I feel the work load. My days are spend either in school, doing school work, working, and trying to find time with Colin. I have classes almost everyday of the week, Monday's and Wednesday I have Humanities Through the 60's, English, and French. Then Tuesday/Thursdays is a Strength and Toning class. All of my classes are going to be fun, but also a full schedule. I've yet to buy back to school things, besides a backpack, but here is a wish list of things I would like for the school year...
Also I'm having trouble finding time to get to the gym, ugh why do I never have enough time to workout anymore. But soon I will be on a set schedule and I'll have everything under control. So this is to the beginning of the next 2 years of schooling!
